Delhi & India Information

Project Himalaya Treks
Namaste!

The Jet Air flight from Kathmandu to Delhi, along the Himalayan range ...

The 'Kamzang Control' sticker system (this is a recommended juice bar). Try the fresh mango juice when in season at this juice bar, just around the corner from Cottage Yes Please ...

You won't lack for Vitamin C in Delhi. Don't hesitate to buy fruit from the street; 'kitne hai?' means 'how much?' in Hindi, and you will usually buy a half kilo or kilo, which is easy to bargain for. They'll usually give you a price close to the Indian price, so no need to worry if you loose a few cents ...

Cold sodas are safe, and always available. For a real Indian refresher on a hot & humid day, try a 'fresh lemon soda' (nimbu pani) from most juice vendors or from any restaurant. It comes either plain, sweet or salted ...

The map of Delhi from inside of the new Metro system, a great network of above and underground trains, which expands each time we return to Delhi. To go to Connaught Place from Pahar Ganj, take the Metro just down the road from the hotel (RK Ashram) to Rajiv Gandi Chowk ...

Or you can always jump in an Auto Rickshaw, but be sure to ask the price first, and bargain. Often you'll be offered a free ride if you stop at an emporium, with no commitment to buy. The rickshaw drivers get a commission, so it's quite harmless (but expensive). They're usually on the way ...

A wedding right outside our juice bar in Pahar Ganj ...

It's rarely dull in India!

The only place to get a REAL lassi in Delhi, right on the street corner, served in a chilled metal tumbler (a lassi is the ubiquitous Indian drink make of fresh yogurt and water, sometimes with salt, sometimes with sugar, here available even with bananas and ice). If you're worried about the ice, just ask for 'no ice' ...
Prince & Rajesh, two of the three brothers who make up Druv Travels, who provide airport pick-ups, drop-offs, Delhi sightseeing tours and Rajasthan tours ... Info under India Tours on the website.
They also will give you a Delhi tour (in an a/c car), either half day or full day, for a good price. Ask Kim for rates ...

The best juice bar in Pahar Ganj, started by the older man in front, who came to Delhi at partition from Lahore; try the fresh mango or papaya juice, or in the winter, the vegetable juice with fresh mint ...
